MPD Officers Trained To Respond To Calls With Autism And Other Disabilities
Updated: Feb 22, 2022
The Manchester Police Department teamed up with The Moore Center to prepare police officers to better handle calls involving people with autism and other disabilities.
The Moore Center developed the training for the department and recently hosted a ‘Train the Trainer’ event.
Several Officers were trained by clinicians from The Moore Center. The training includes sensitivity training and de-escalation techniques, among other things.
These officers will be able to go on and train others in the department as well. The hope is that this will give officers a better understanding of autism, the challenges it presents, and ultimately help them to interact with autistic people in a more positive way.
