2-Alarm Fire On Walnut Street Displaces Six People
MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance responded to 287 Walnut Street for a reported structure fire on Friday.
Crews arrived at a two-story, two-family residence with heavy fire on the second floor, on the north side of the building at about 11:15 a.m.
Community Response Unit known as Squad 1 was first on the scene, and engine 11 arrived shortly thereafter.
Exterior flames were extinguished before making entry through the front of the residence. Steady winds enhanced flame spread throughout the second floor and attic space.
A second alarm was called at 11:30 a.m. for additional manpower. Four handlines were used to bring the fire under control at 12:05 p.m..
District Chief Jonathan Starr said all occupants had evacuated themselves before fire crews arrived. The home sustained extensive fire and water damage and initial estimates total $225,000. The siding of a neighboring home was also damaged.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire originated on a second-floor porch and was accidental in nature. In all, six people were displaced from the residence.
No firefighters or civilians were injured in the incident.
